Mister Rogers & Rochelle
I‘m Rochelle Bunnett. I started Our Kids Press in 1997.
Simple. As a teacher I was frustrated not being able to find quality books and posters promoting inclusion at its best: young children with and without disabilities learning and playing together in natural inclusive settings.
Parents were frustrated, too. They had reason to be. The research shows that less than 2% of children with disabilities are depicted in printed materials (Blaska).
That is not good enough.
Providing quality books and posters promoting inclusion, is one small way to share with others what we share in common and what makes each of us unique.
I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to meet Fred Rogers. His work and words, "all children long to belong" became the inspiration for my first book, Friends in the Park, Checkerboard Press 1992.
I hope my books and posters inspire you to tell your story.
